Information architecture organizes a site's content into a clear, logical structure: menus, categories, page hierarchy.
It defines how pages relate to one another: which sections, which submenus, which paths lead to a given piece of information. Good architecture feels obvious before it's even explained.
On a content-heavy site, like a blog or a catalog, clear architecture reduces the number of clicks needed and also helps search engines index the site.
