A CDN is a network of servers spread around the world that delivers a site's files from the server closest to the visitor.
Without a CDN, every visitor loads files from a single server, sometimes thousands of kilometers away. With a CDN, a copy of the files is cached at multiple points around the globe, cutting the data's travel time.
For a site with an international audience, a CDN makes a direct difference to perceived speed and therefore to conversion. It is a standard part of modern hosting platforms like Vercel.
