Search Generative Experience
Former name of Google's experimental feature integrating AI-generated answers into search results, later renamed AI Overview and then AI Mode.
Launched in 2023 as a test, SGE added a generative answer panel above classic results. Google later split it into two stable products: AI Overview for short summaries, AI Mode for the full conversational experience.
The term is still used out of habit in older SEO articles and tools, even though the product has been renamed.
